Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am delighted to introduce myself to you as the new Dance teacher at our school. It is a pleasure to be a new addition to the WCSS family. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are as well.
This year, your child can expect a fun filled educational curriculum. It will focus on creativity in relationship with literacy, math, history and science. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice a variety of dance techniques inside the class. There will also be after school dance opportunities available to your child. Children must receive ample amounts of physical activity and art to enhance learning and brain functionality. Therefore, I will assure that your child receives enough physical activity to be able to do their best in every class. In addition, your child will be learning how to maintain a healthy active lifestyle both now and in the future. Lastly the students will learn how to properly give each other feedback in a friendly and positive manner to assist in each other’s learning and skills as one solid team. I intend to challenge each student by making him or her think and actively participate.
I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations, both in Dance and in other academic subjects as well. Attached you will find the participation rubric, portraying my exact expectations of each student. I ask that you please send your child to school the days that he/she has Dance wearing comfortable flexible clothing that is appropriate for Physical Activity along with sneakers. This way your child will get the most out of my class and be able to perform at his/her full potential.
This year, I am also beginning a new community outreach program for parents and families. As a licensed Zumba instructor, I will be offering Zumba classes after school hours for you and the staff here at WCSS. I am also a licensed lifeguard and water safety instructor leabing me available for swimming lessons, nutrition tips, tricks, meetings, and anything else that may be requested. If you would like to participate or have a special request please let me know!
If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to contact me either by school phone or by email atewehrman@schools.nyc.gov.
Thank You,
Ms. Wehrman, M.S.
